Who is a Trans Newcomer?

The word “transgender” might sound new to you. In North America, Transgender, often shortened as ‘trans’ or ‘trans*’ (the asterisk is meant to include non-binary identities such as genderqueer) is an umbrella term which describes a wide range of people whose gender identity and/or expression is different from expectations based on their assigned sex.

A newcomer is someone who was born outside of Canada, and is an immigrant or refugee. We support all newcomers, including refugee claimants, refugees, protected persons, immigrants, work/study permit holders, and anyone who feels new to B.C.
