Junchuan, Technical Support Engineer from China

Junchuan who prefers to be called Jason, participated and completed SOPA, Job Search Strategies course, recently immigrated from China and landed in Vancouver. He came to Canada with 15 years’ of global telecom technical experience and was seeking for a senior level sales engineer telecom operator position. Below please see his own words about his experience with SOPA.

“Life is not easy for new immigrants; there are many challenges like culture, language, settlement and jobs. It takes time but eventually everything will be fine. There is very good social system, people in Canada are very friendly, there are always someone ready to help you.

Canada is a rich and peaceful country, it welcomes new immigrants, people are friendly and always like to support each other. I have a strong sense of belonging after my immigration application was approved.

I contacted SOPA, MOSAIC, there are great professional people working here with passion and empathy. I got some professional network via them; I was also able to reach other social groups following their suggestions.

Their course helped me to get to know more about job market in Canada, the online courses helped me to develop many job seeking skills like online searching, resume and cover letter writing, preparation for an interview. There were assignments in each section, I needed to apply newly learnt skills into it, and the facilitator gave timely and valuable feedbacks. This was not like many online tutoring courses seemed “listen and forget” easily.

I got two job offers soon after my arrival and decided to go with Fortine as a technical support engineer. I am very excited to share this good news with all of you. My responsibilities are including helping customers’ to solve technical problems via phone calls, follow up on the cases until ticket closed, collect information to keep records, find root causes or escalate for further analysis if necessary.

I couldn’t have been so far without SOPA help. The pre-arrival courses are so valuable; I learned so many things before I arrived to Canada. The staff encouragement and suggestions when we met in person warmed me deep in my heart. I really appreciate their professionalism, enthusiasm and empathy. Thank you again and I am ready to my new career with no hesitation.
