Stephen King, Software Engineer from Indonesia
“During my planning stage to move to British Columbia, Canada, the most incredible thing happened to me. One evening, I was checking my e-mail at my home and there in my spam box was an e-mail from SOPA. My curiosity got the best of me, so I opened it and the rest is history.
My name is Stephen King. Not the Stephen King the novelist, but Stephen King the software engineer from Jakarta, Indonesia. In my opinion, anyone who is planning to immigrate to Canada should complete this program. My wife Veronika and I had many discussions on how to integrate to the working culture in Canada and were not getting anywhere until I contacted Ms. Anisha, SOPA’s program assistant. We had a detailed assessment with her and she referred me to the Job Search Strategies Course.
It was certainly a remarkable experience learning about all the strategies of finding a job in Canada. In my home country, it is much simpler to find work. Without this program I would be literally starting all over again.
What helped me the most is reading and answering all the quizzes. I remember the first test I did was fifteen questions on job search research, communication, and organization. Here I thought I would have aced it, but to my surprise, I got some answers wrong.
Then there were the NOC code and SAR method, something I had never heard off before. I hoped that by learning how to write a good resume, cover letter, and having great interview skills, I would secure my dream job, but there is so much more to learn.
Linda Ragoonanan was in constant contact with me, motivated me, and encouraged me throughout this whole process. Without this program, I would not be able to find a job in my field as a Software Developer within three weeks of arrival.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to Linda and the SOPA team for their hard work and perseverance. A big thumbs up to all of you!
My wife and I are expecting our first born and now my plan to live my dream of raising my family in this beautiful country.“
