Program Description

The Ready English Accessible for Caregivers at Home (REACH) Program will provide women at-home caregivers with online English classes.

Participants will study topics that are useful for their life in Canada. There are also Play Activities that mothers can do at home with their children.

REACH Class:  The REACH ESL class has two parts: online and in-person.

Online:  Participants use their own computer, tablet or phone to study at home.   Learners can study anytime, according to their own schedule.  The online activities are short, 15-minutes for each activity.  Learners are expected to study online for 5 hours each week.

In-person:  Participants and their children will meet 2-3 times a month in person.  The in-person session will be for 2 hours on Saturday mornings.  Mothers will review online learning with their ESL instructor, then learn about parenting, life in Canada or community services. Children can play and do activities with certified childhood educators.

REACH is a research project. All participants will be divided into two groups, Program Group and Control Group.  The Program group WILL attend REACH classes. The Control Group will NOT attend REACH classes, but they CAN attend other English classes. Both groups are very important to help the REACH program become a class for everyone to join in the future. Help yourself and help other mothers. Be part of the research for the REACH program.

The online course is now open for registration.

This program is supported by Achēv and Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia.
