Join the Community with a Culture Connection

The people we know have a huge impact on our lives: on our day-to-day happiness, on our ability to find work, and on how we feel a part of a community. Immigrants moving to Canada leave behind their social network and face challenges in making connections in a new country with a different culture and language.

At MOSAIC, we know that creating positive connections is key to integrating fully into life in Canada. Our Culture Connections Program is designed to help immigrants and newcomers to Canada build relationships and learn about the many opportunities that Vancouver and the local community have to offer.

One-on-One Social Support

We believe that the first step in connecting to the community is to make friends and to socialize one-on-one. At MOSAIC, we provide that one-on-one relationship through “Social Mentors” who will spend time with you, discussing your life, exploring hobbies and attending gatherings.

The MOSAIC Social Connections Program includes:

  • 3 months of one-on-one mentorship, once per week for up to two hours
  • Networking events, held every 2 months, with guest speakers on topics of interest to newcomers to Canada
  • Field trips and outings to community organizations, festivals or cultural events

Our volunteer mentors, many of whom are past immigrants, know what difficulties newcomers to Canada face. Together, you will have a chance to practice speaking and writing English, discuss Canadian life and culture, try new activities and hobbies, explore your local community and make new friends.

The MOSAIC Social Connections Program is designed for immigrants and newcomers to Canada who want to learn more about Canadian culture, make friends and improve communication skills. Participants in the program must be at least 18 years old, a Permanent Resident of Canada and currently living in the Greater Vancouver Area.

Our application process helps us ensure that you are matched up with an appropriate volunteer Social Mentor.
