Multicultural Seniors Day 2021
MOSAIC Multicultural Seniors Day is an annual celebration to pay tribute to immigrant and refugee seniors for their contributions to Canadian society. It is held on or close to October 1st each year, which also marks National Seniors Day in Canada and the United Nations International Day of Older Persons.
The theme for this year is "My Journey through COVID". It is in connection with last year's theme "My Journey My Home" that features the immigrant journey of immigrant seniors. Their journey doesn't finish. COVID hits hardest on our seniors in the past year. This year's theme reflects what they have been going through.
The Multicultural Seniors Choir was established in 2019. In the past year, they take up a new role as Musical Ambassadors to prevent dementia. They will share their journey with the audience with music and movement on Seniors Day.
We will highlight another art-based study "Storied Lives - an Impact Study of COVID-19 on seniors and their community support services” with our research partner SFU. Seniors’ "Letters to COVID" artwork will be exhibited at the event and their stories will be illustrated in various art forms.
